We have created a huge infrastructure, everything is physically connected and is an essential link for the overall system to perform. Up until now the system is managed in a rudimentary form. Each link is seen and assessed in its own merits; not as an element in an entire value web or eco-system. For leveraging the full potential of data that is being collected and the connectivity of the system, new questions are arising. Insight in the infrastructure and assets on availability, performance and potential disruptions is not only key for the asset owner, but also for the other actors in the value web.
Information is often “locked” inside various company systems and is not accessible, or even worser, the information has not been stored yet. To stand a fair chance in the next level of the game, insight is key. However, a lot of data is already publicly available and might helps in creating and providing the right insights in the actual usage of the infrastructure and assets.

What is happening on the road. A lot of data is available. Can we create insight in the usage of this road? Even better, can we predict failure of the system? How and where can we pro-actively help in keeping things moving using data and technology?

Dredging & Terminal schedules
Dredging activities are costly activities and are often difficult to predict. When dredging activities need to be done at the terminal, the operations are shut down and the terminal needs to be set on hold. However, when a vessel is being (un)loaded at the terminal, it also occurs that the dredging services need to be wait. And as you probably know, time=money. So, can we optimize and align the terminal activities with the dredging activities? (i.e. schedules, AIS, real-time information)
Predicting dredging activities using Hydro/Meteo data
One of the major influencers of silting up the waterways are the hydro/meteo conditions. Currently models are used to get insight in the silting up on waterways. Can those models be combined, or can we even create new dynamic models, with the use of hydro/meteo actuals?
Identifying peak moments and bottlenecks in the network
The frequency of using port infrastructure has a close relation with the maintenance of it. The more an asset has been used, probably the sooner maintenance is required. Where are the bottlenecks, what are the conditions and how can we act efficiently to guarantee safe and smooth waterways? (AIS, Radar, hydro/meteo, etc)
